The United Arab Emirates is a country located on the Arabian Peninsula, which is located on the south east coast of the Persian Gulf and the northeast coast of the Gulf of Oman. The UAE occupies an area of 83,600 sq km and is compared to the size of Maine. The United Arab Emirates is also made up of four-fifths desert, yet is also known for its beautiful landscape, which consist of dunes, steep mountains, and fertile plants. “Abu Dhabi consisted of several hundred palm huts (barasti) huts, a few coral buildings and the Ruler's Fort. Situated along the creek, Dubai was a trading hub, providing a safe haven before the Straits of Hormuz and beyond. Life today in the Emirates bears little resemblance to that of 40 years ago.” (Zayed University 1)
The United Arab Emirates is lucky enough to consist of a federation of seven emirates that were founded in 1971. These seven emirates named Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Ras Al Khamiah were originally known as the Trucial States because of the relations established with the British during the 19th century.
The UAE has a long extensive history and started off as a desert area with resourceful nomadic tribes who would fish and heard cattle. “Parts of the UAE were settled as far back as the 3rd millennium BC and its early history fits the nomadic, herding and fishing pattern typical of the broader region.” (Zayed University 1) The first setters were the Bedouin tribes, which they became the building blocks for the greatness to come in the UAE. The Bedouin tribes were known for their hard work, resourcefulness and independence which has carried on today among the modern Emirati population. Around 1498 the Portuguese arrived with the British following soon after. When the British came into conflict with the Qawaism Tribal group the area acquired the name “Pirate Coast”. After the British conveyed the Quawaism navy they decided to force a General Peace Treaty on the nine Arab sheikdoms and established a defense force in the region. In result of this the area as than named the Trucial coast until the creation of the UAE in 1981.
Pertaining to the concept Guns, Germs, and Steel we learned in class is basically asking us is why did people decide to settle in the UAE, and where did they decide to settle. What obstacles did they face, and what resources did the settlers grow there. Much of what I have found in research states that many settlers decided to settle there because of their great waterway. Which leads to me next point; where did they settle? When the nomadic tribes first came they settled along the coast because the United Arab Emirates waterways were very important. These settlers would use their resources greatly as there resources depended on the water. They would fish, and eventually pearl diving started. The settlers looked to the sea for much of their living.
As of 2015 The United Arab Emirates has a total population of 9.346 million, which consists of 1.4 million being Emirati citizens and 7.8 million being expatriates. The UAE today is known for one of the world’s fastest growing tourist destinations, has beautiful beaches, and shopping, high class hotel and a very captivating culture.

- I chose to do the earliest year the pyramid would give me which was 1950. In this pyramid you can see how the male and female population seemed to be rather even. You can also see how at the agree of 65 the population started to really increase. As the years went up the population was fewer.

- I then chose to do the most recent year in United Arab Emirates, as this pyramid shows something much different. First just looking at the image I captured you can see the huge difference just in the population number. Also you can see how there are more males in the United Arab Emirates then Females and the age range is show to be from 25-39 years of age.
